Rugby Has Been Adopted!
Hi! My name is Rugby, and I am a very adorable, very sweet and loving, 3 year-old, 23 pound, neutered male Pembroke Welsh Corgi!
I was saved from a high-kill shelter down south, and am very happy to be in a wonderful foster home with a foster mom and a terrific female dog. I am a very affectionate little guy, but not in a clingy or needy way. I just love when you want to pay attention to me, and am eager to please by doing my best to learn. I also love being petted, and especially getting belly rubs; I flop over on my back if I even have a hint that you might rub my belly for me, and love neck scratches and kisses and massages!
I’m relaxed and fairly confident with both people and other dogs, and am getting along very well with the other dog in my foster home. I wish she would interact with me a bit more, but I’ve only been here a few days, and I can understand her being a bit shy. I plan to win her over with time! I am very happy to around other nice dogs, but the rescue folks don’t know how I am with cats, so that would have to be checked out.
I also love going for walks, which delights the humans walking me. I walk at a very brisk, energetic and happy pace, but my legs are SO small (like a couple of inches tall!), that my speed walking pace matches a regular human’s leisurely stroll. They say I look like a big furry caterpillar on wheels! I’m a pretty nice walker, though I have an unfortunate habit of darting straight AT cars when they pass by. Not safe! So, my foster mom is working on getting me to heel close to her when cars go by. Given my car darting, I definitely could not be walked off-leash, unless we were way far out on hiking trails (and only then if you trained me to come and I did it perfectly).
I love being around my human, and am content to lay near her while she works, listens to music, or watches TV, but I’m also OK being by myself. I’m good in a crate, and even go in the crate sometimes on my own just to relax. You should know that my coat is luscious, but VERY thick, so the hot weather is harder on me than on short-coated dogs. I’m not the type of dog who could accompany you on errands during the summer and wait in the car; I would overheat before you could get that quart of milk! I bet I enjoy the snow though…we’ll have to see!
I’m very healthy, very happy, housebroken, and excited to find my forever home. If you think you might like to adopt me, please read about the adoption process today and live EITHER within 30 minutes of Ithaca OR very close to Syracuse, Binghamton, or Owego. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.
