Shasta Has Been Adopted!

Shasta is not a CDR dog and has not been evaluated by CDR. All decisions about Shasta's adoption will be made by her current owner; please read information at the end of Shasta's bio about how to apply to adopt Shasta.

Hi! My name is Shasta, and I am a playful, funny, loving, sweet, 3 year-old, spayed, female German Shepherd! I know that technically I am an "adult dog," but everyone always asks if I am a puppy, because I am bouncy and fun and playful and have a puppy's zest for life! I love to run and play, and I could fetch balls all day long! :)

I love everyone that I meet, and enthusiastically greet everyone who comes to my house. Sometimes I bark, but it is out of excitement for someone's arrival, and when I get to greet the guest, I settle down and greatly enjoy getting petted and played with. One of my favorite things to do is take long walks in the woods. I make a fantastic hiking and running partner. I can even carry my very own doggie backpack on a hike!! I love having a job, and any job you ask me to do I will do with 110% of my heart.

I can sit, stay, lay down, heel, and fetch, and I love when you pet me to show that you are happy with me. I especially love being petted right between the eyes, and usually I start to close my eyes and nod off when you pet me there!! My mom says it is really cute!

I have grown up in a house with another dog, and I love to play, but I am picky about some dogs, and I sometimes get territorial around my house or around food. I am working on this, but it's important that we're careful about my dog-dog interactions for now.

My mom travels a lot for her job, and I have to spend extended periods of time with other families. Though I have been very adaptable and have been enjoyed being babysat by different families, it's not the greatest situation for me. And now that my mom's job will require her to be away even more, she thinks that I need (and deserve) a more stable home situation so I can settle in and get in a groove with my people!!! Being close and connected to my people is what makes me happiest, and that's what my mom wants to give me.

If you think you might like to adopt me, please read about the adoption process today and live EITHER within 30 minutes of Ithaca OR very close to Syracuse, Binghamton, or Owego. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
