Sweep

***Sweep is not a CDR dog and he has not been evaluated by CDR.
This is a courtesy posting for Sweep's family,
who want to find him a really wonderful new home***

Hi, my name is Sweep, and I am a wonderful, sweet, very smart, playful, and adorable
4 year-old, micro-chipped, neutered male Border Collie!  I was imported from the UK. where I was a full-time sheepherder in Ireland!  How cool is that? I am fully trained on sheep, but have recently been diagnosed with PRA, an illness that is causing me to go blind.  My vision is not totally gone, but will be at some point.  Since I need more attention and a slightly different lifestyle as a blind dog than my parents can provide on their sheep farm, they are trying to find me a fantastic new home.

I am terrific with people, love affection, and my mom says I am almost "too
affectionate!"  Can you imagine?  This means that I will come to you sometimes, and
snuggle my head under your hand to give you the idea that petting me would be terrific.  I am quite happy, smart (VERY), loyal, and eager to learn.  I also get very
excited when meeting people and have a hard time not jumping up to say hello, but then I correct myself quickly and perform a very nice "sit."  I do try hard!

I'm terrific with other dogs, and really enjoy playing with them.  I am also fine with cats, no worries there.  I would really love to find a new home that has another dog in it, so that dog might help me out as my eyesight worsens and fails totally.  Dogs do this for each other all the time, and it's quite lovely.  I would find it quite comforting I think.

Overall I am quite eager to be someone’s companion.  I would love to pal around with someone!  A jogger/hiker would be great since we Border Collies really need to get good exercise regularly. I am a happy, bouncy, friendly, wonderful boy!

Sweep's parents say, "Sweep can live a complete, full life without vision. He feels most secure being close to us, and is very loving and sweet.  Another dog to “be his eyes” and follow around is also good.

A friend of his parents who has a PRA dog says the following:

“Honestly, around the house- you would never know he was blind.  Every once in a while - when he is giddy and playful - he forgets where he is and walks into something.  Otherwise, even if I move furniture, he gets the floor plan right on the first shot.  He chases my other dog around like a pro.  He grabs bones off the floor like a fish hitting a worm.  His other senses are definitely heightened.  People tend to feel sorry for him, but there is nothing to feel sorry for.  He is very intelligent, obedient, and functions as a normal dog would (only thing he doesn't do is run full speed... he only maxes out in third gear... he is cautious).”

If you think you are interested in me, please send in an adoption application today and we will forward it onto Sweep's parents.  Thanks!
