Tia

Hi, my name is Tia, and I am a super friendly, loving, very smart and playful 8-year old, 32-pound, spayed, female Standard Poodle!  Don't let my 8 years fool you--I am full of youthful energy and enthusiasm--most people who meet me guess that I am 3 or 4!  I am a very petite Standard Poodle (not a very large toy poodle!), and am extraordinarily delighted to be in a foster home with a lovely woman who gives me loads of attention and affection.  Wow, it's so great!

Prior to coming into rescue, I was used as a breeding dog in a small puppy mill, and though I was not mistreated, I didn't get to be a loved member of a family.  It's SO nice to be a family member, and I can't wait to find my forever home.

I love being taken for walks, and being petted and snuggled and loved.  I follow my foster mom around absolutely everywhere and I do get sad when she leaves (though happily she doesn't leave for too many hours at a time).  I am one of those "velcro dogs" that you hear about!  I'm not pushy about wanting love or anything, I just prefer to be near to you.

I have a very frisky, silly, and goofy side too, and have a gentle, fun, trusting personality.  I am enjoying the fenced yard here, but only when my foster mom comes outside too!  Forget about putting me outdoors to get some fresh air and to entertain myself if you're not there--I will just cry to come back inside and be near you.

I am good with other dogs, which makes sense given how many dogs there were at the breeding facility.  Though there are no other dogs in my foster home, dogs have come over for playdates and I'm very friendly to them.  We're not sure how I am with cats, so that would need to be checked out if you have cats.

I'm housebroken and being crate-trained, am learning a few basic commands (my foster mom says I'm really bright!), and am starting a basic obedience class soon.  I don't mind a crate if you are there (I happily sleep in a crate next to my foster mom's bed) but don't like it so much if you crate me and then leave the house.  I bark for a while when my foster mom goes out but seem to be getting a bit more okay with it over time.

If I haven't been clear, let me ay that my ideal home would have people around a great deal of the time!

I seem very healthy, though I have some itching/scratching that the vets are trying to figure out.  We're going to change my food and see if that makes a difference. Also, I was recently spayed, and they found a benign tumor which they removed.  I shouldn't have any problems from that, but just thought you should know!  I'm all up to date on vaccines and am just a truly adorable lovebug, and am going to make someone extremely happy.

If you are interested in me, please fill out an adoption application today and live near Ithaca OR near Binghamton, Owego, or Syracuse.  The rescue folks do home visits on every applicant, and can only do adoptions where we have approved volunteers doing home visits.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
